WHO ARE THE VENICE LIONS
We Serve!

Our Venice club is part of the largest international service organization in the world. We support international efforts to save the sight of millions, provide measles vaccinations and disaster relief.
At the local community level, Lions provide free vision and hearing services to those in need, screen the vision of preschool children and collect used eyeglasses. They also sponsor and participate in many events such as the Sharks Tooth Festival, Halloween and Holiday parades, Youth Recycle Program, Peace Poster Contest and Easter egg hunts.
Every dollar donated goes back to the community in the form of grants, scholarships, and educational and fun activities for children.
Our members like serving in a club with a purpose. It makes us feel good to give back to our community. We are looking for people to bring inspirations, ideas and talents to our club. We hope you will join us at one of our meetings to see what a difference you could make as a Venice Lion!
Please call us at (941) 837-2789, email us at venicelionsclub@gmail.com or through the Contact link above for more information about our Club and to attend a meeting.

Barbara McGillicuddy
Treasurer - Administration
Lion Barbara learned about Lionism at an early age as her dad was a Lion in Bridgewater, MA. Years later when her husband Joe decided it was time to give back to their NH community, she suggested the Hampstead Lions Club. They both became involved and he steadily worked his way through all the club and district offices reaching the position of District Governor of NH District 44-H.
Lion Barbara has been a member of the Lions family since 1974 when she joined the Hampstead (NH) Lioness Club. She became the first Lioness District President in New England and earned five club extension awards. When Lions International dissolved the Lioness District organization she joined the Hampstead and then Portsmouth (NH) Lions Clubs and served as Treasurer of Lions Camp Pride (NH) for 4 years prior to relocating to Venice in 1994. Upon her departure from NH the Hampstead and Portsmouth Lions Clubs joined in naming her a Melvin Jones Fellow and in 2009 the Venice Lions Club awarded her a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellowship.
Since then Lion Barbara has served the Venice Lions Club as Secretary, 3rd, 2nd, 1st Vice President, as well as two terms as President in 1998-99 and in 2008-09.

Pamela Brown

Pamela’s interest in Lionism began in 2008 when she managed a Library for the Blind in Virginia Beach. The local Lions Club brought their mobile vision van to the library’s parking lot to offer free vision screenings, and she was so impressed, she joined the same day. After that beginning in Virginia, Pamela was a member of two Lions’ Clubs in Mexico. She has seen what it means to be a member of Lions International. Every llocal club works to improve the lives of their community’s most vulnerable neighbors in a vast network of assistance spanning the globe. Pamela continues to assist blind and low vision individuals access free audio books from the National Library for the Blind and Print Disabled.

Christal Snell
One Year Director
Since I was a child, I have admired the Lions. For as young as I can remember their presence circled in our community. There was no mistaking their bright shiny yellow vest frolicking about at many events and happenings throughout our cities and towns in the Boston area where I was raised. Without knowing it then the Lions were much more than their colorful attire and big smiles.
On the last Sunday in October the Woburn MA Lions Club always hosts the annual Halloween Parade, an event that has taken place for 70 years. For about a decade my late husband Patrick along with a group of friends and his employees would build a float on one of his construction company trailers all decked out with Halloween décor. The company trucks would pull the float filled with friend’s kids aboard and a band playing The Monstah Mash down Main St. We would pass out thousands of pounds of candy to all the kids dressed in their costumes along the parade route, rain or shine the show went on! It was something Patrick took a lot of pride in doing and enjoyed every minute of it. We were not members of the Lions then but supported their local causes through donations to serve the community.
Six months after Patrick passed, I received a letter in the mail from The Lions Eye Foundation. Informing me that because of Patrick being an organ donor they successfully transplanted portions of his eyes to two (2) recipients that could now see. The gift of sight! Wow! This changed my world and gave me new perspective on my journey moving forward………… Feelings of, how will I get through the next day? Began to shift to, how can I serve others?
On the one-year anniversary of my husband Patrick’s passing, it was Jan 16, 2024. I called the Venice Lions Club to inquire about joining. With open arms and a smile on the other end of the line Barbara said come on in! I was invited to the next meeting and soon thereafter I became a proud member of The Venice Lions Club! Now I get to wear that bright shiny yellow vest I admired so much as a child. I get to serve alongside the most kind and giving souls that I have ever met in my life. Soon after joining I also learned my grandfather was a member of the Lions in Reading MA for over 50 years!
I am a yoga teacher now and the most powerful message that I share is: “To show up just as you are and to know that wherever you are at, is exactly where you should be.”
Thank you, Lions, thank you…….
