A Day at the Vision Center

A Day at the Vision Center

Venice / Englewood Lions Clubs Vision Center at Venice Regional Medical Center  Health Park.

We are located at the junction of Center Road and Jacaranda Blvd. at 1289 Jacaranda Blvd. in Venice

The Vision Center Clinic Day starts with the arrival of the first scheduled patients. Our office volunteers help them with the required form filling and they also make sure that the patients meet the residency and financial requirements as specified in the Keerl bequest and revised by the Board.
All patients, adults and children, get a basic vision test using the industry standard Snellen Chart. We use a special picture chart for children who are too young to recognize the English alphabet.
We test all patients for high blood pressure and blood sugar levels ...
A nurse provided by the Venice Regional Medical Center tests for abnormal blood sugar levels to detect any early signs of diabetes ..
We have a retired orthoptist among our members. She is a volunteer at the Vision Center and uses the Lions Club owned Auto Refractor to take a closer look at patients eyes before the volunteer ophthalmologist of the month sees the patient.
We make special effort to take care of children's vision. One of our volunteer ophthalmologists, Dr. Mark Johnson, took time off from his busy practice to take care of this little girl's vision while Beverly Kruger, one of our senior lions looks on..
We advise all patients to fast overnight for the blood sugar test... and we provide a light breakfast before they leave.
Lions Club of Venice / Englewod offer free hearing tests for all residents who attend our Vision Screening Clinic. Here Lion Dr. Ric Namikas - owner of a local business is helping a local resident with her earphones prior to the start of test.

In between patients ...

A well deserved break for some of our volunteers....

We have a group of dedicated volunteers to perform the vision and hearing screening of all patients who come to our clinic. They start work at 7 a.m. or earlier to get the clinic ready for the first batch of patients who are scheduled at 7:30 a.m. and most times are kept busy until well into mid morning. Here some of those volunteers posed for a "family" portrait.
